54th Ginza Festival in August

The 54th Annual Ginza Holiday, a large Japanese cultural festival, will be presented by the Midwest Buddhist Temple on Aug 7, 8, and 9 at 435 W. Menomonee Street in Chicago’s historic Old Town. For more information go to the website ginzachicago.com

Bon Odori Dance
Saturday July 11, 2009 8:00 pm in the Temple parking lot

Our annual dance will feature shave ice and lemonade for sale. There is no chicken teriyaki offered for sale at this event. The hondo/chapel and nokotsudo/columbarium will be open from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm to offer incense.

Dance practice nights are at 7:30 pm on Monday June 29th, Wednesday July 1, Monday July 6, Wednesday July 8 and Thursday July 9. Come learn this very simple dance.

Socho Ogui Luncheon
Sunday July 19, 2009 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM

Please join us for a Welcome Back Luncheon for Socho Ogui, July 19, 2009 at 11:30 am.

The menu choices will be Rotisserie Chicken or a Teriyaki Veggie Burger dinner with drink and dessert.

Tickets are $6 for Adults and $5 for Seniors and Students.

Have you been listening to our weekly podcasts on a regular basis? Do the podcasts leave you with more questions? Does listening to our podcasts make you feel like you've come in the middle of a movie and don't know the beginning of the story?

We are offering a series of lectures on Buddhism that will give you a foundation to work upon. Sensei Siebuhr will explain the origins of Buddhism and how the different sects came to be.

Please telephone the Temple at (312) 943-7802 from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM weekdays to register for any or all the classes. The fee for each series of lectures is $50 for non Temple members and $20 for Temple pledge members. Course syllabus.

Series 1: Introduction to Religion - February 7, 14, 21 and March 7

Series 2: Introduction to Buddhism - May 2, 9, 16 and 23

Series 3: Introduction to Jodo Shinshu - June 27, July 11, 25 and August 1

Series 4: Introduction to Japanese Buddhism - October 3, 10, 17 and 24
