While receiving his BA from the University of California, Berkeley, Rev. Miyamura attended the Institute of Buddhist Studies and became the fourth ministerial candidate to enter the program. Rev. Miyamura then went to Ryukoku University in Kyoto, Japan where he earned his MA in Shin Buddhist Studies. He was ordained a Minister and certified a Missionary (Kaikyoshi) in 1973.
From 1973 to the end of 1975, Rev. Miyamura was the Associate Minister of the Midwest Buddhist Temple alongside the late Rev. Gyodo Kono, the founding minister of the temple. Following Rev. Konoís passing, Rev. Miyamura was the Resident Minister from 1976 to 1981. He took a leave of absence to pursue a civilian career, primarily with United Airlines, before returning to full time ministry.
Rev. Miyamura also serves as the Part Time Minister of the Cleveland Buddhist Temple and the Supervising Minister of the Twin Cities (MN) Buddhist Association.
